Engineering Manager

Job Description

The Engineering Manager oversees the Engineering Department including mechanical, automation, and administrative personnel. This group is responsible for the product life cycle, product development and providing technical support throughout the company and for clients. More specifically the Engineering Manager is responsible for the overall performance and synergy of the team notably through labor management, processes, and procedures. This also includes overseeing the archiving of all corporate engineering via PDM.

Responsibilities

ENGINEERING

1. Meet delivery objectives and development projects on time and on budget with expected quality.
2. Establish, sustain, and audit engineering best practices via: standards, procedures and processes.
3. Interface and coordinate with all departments when necessary to ensure company goals are met.
4. Contribute to the product development roadmap.
5. Ensure product lifecycles are managed accordingly via engineering change requests (ECRs), cost reductions, optimizations, and obsolescence.
6. Respect SMART principals and adherence to known standards when applicable: CSA, UL, ANSI, USDA, OSHA.
7. Approve and manage the use of sub-contract engineering services including other corporate entities.
8. Routine Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SRED) documentation and annual filing.
9. Ensure proper time punching and costing.

DOCUMENTATION CONTROL

1. Establish, sustain, and audit procedures and processes, ensuring they are respected and executed diligently.
2. Ensure proper documentation, revision management and end of life for products including but not limited to: drawings, stock codes, manuals, spec sheets, marketing information, etc.
3. Ensure BOMs are properly created and maintained for Production and Service.
4. Creation of tools or guides to help improve manufacturing process or client experience with regards to the product.
5. Technical documentation and commercialization processes are created, maintained, and executed as part of the product life cycle.

6. Manage and align Syspro product configurator to the price book.
7. Manage Solid Works PDM drawing vaults for control and consistency.

ADMINISTRATION

1. Execute daily/weekly/monthly meetings with the team, ensuring optimal coordination and clear schedule with achievable objectives for personnel via Weigh Pack Management System (WMS).
2. Receive and distribute all new orders while ensuring scopes, budgets and expectations are established and approved by management.
3. Ensure schedules and capacity are current and routinely managed.
4. Continuously improve quality, productivity and efficiency while reducing costs where possible.

6. Create and manage KPIs
7. Ensure department is kept clean including both physical and digital spaces.
8. Manage Opex/Capex.
9. Manage all relevant software:
Wrike, Solid Works CAD, Solid Works PDM, SharePoint, Network Directory, Syspro.
10. Manage drawings software for other sites.
