Flight Controls Engineer (Fly-By-Wire & Secondary Systems)

Base pay range

CA $38.00/hr - CA $48.00/hr

Location: Montreal, QC – Hybrid (2 days/week on-site)

Contract: 12 months

Controlled Goods Clearance required

Start date: beginning of 2026

Status: Consultant/Freelance/Self employed/Independent Contractor

No overtime expected: regular workday with some flexibility.

Occasional travel to suppliers

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Professional Engineer with expertise in Fly-by-Wire (FBW) and Secondary Flight Control Systems to support existing programs and contribute to future aerospace innovations. This role involves system integration, supplier coordination, and participation in certification activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Integrate FBW and Secondary Flight Control systems on aircraft.
  • Collaborate with suppliers on design concepts and philosophies.
  • Perform and review feasibility analyses.
  • Develop, validate, and verify technical requirements.
  • Prepare and review test procedures; execute rig and aircraft testing.
  • Support certification activities through test reports.
  • Troubleshoot in-service issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with ARP

  • Participate in trade‑off studies and lifecycle cost analysis for future programs.
  • Provide on‑site support at final assembly lines, completion centers, and flight test facilities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
    .
  • 7+ years aerospace experience.
  • Direct involvement in definition and certification of FBW and/or Secondary Flight Control systems
    .
  • Strong understanding of system integration and certification processes.
  • Knowledge of Part 25 certification
    .
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow
    ; familiarity with ADAMS and CATIA is an asset.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and requirements management tools.
Soft Skills
  • Excellent communication in English (French is an asset).
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Organized, self‑motivated, team player, customer‑focused.
  • Ability to work under pressure with initiative and integrity.
