Description

The Commercial Property Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of commercial real estate assets. This role ensures accurate property-level financials, provides timely reporting to management, supports property operations, and maintains compliance with leases, company policies, and accounting standards.

In this role, you will:

Property Accounting & Financial Reporting

Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for assigned commercial properties.

Maintain the general ledger, including journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, and reconciliations.

Complete monthly variance analyses and provide explanations to property and asset management teams.

Rent & Lease Administration

Prepare CAM (Common Area Maintenance) schedule

Perform annual CAM and operating expense reconciliations and prepare tenant adjustment invoices.

Ensure compliance with lease terms, including base rent, escalations, abatements, tenant improvements, and reimbursements.

Capital & Operational Tracking

Track capital expenditures (Cap Ex), tenant improvement allowances, and leasing commissions.

Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.

Collaboration & Communication

Work closely with property managers, leasing teams, and asset managers to support operational needs.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.

2–5+ years of property accounting experience; commercial real estate strongly preferred.

Strong understanding of lease types (NNN, gross, modified) and CAM reconciliation.

Proficiency with real estate accounting software (Yardi)

Strong Excel skills and attention to detail.

Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
