THE POSITION
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is looking for dedicated students pursuing degrees in Civil, Construction, Environmental, or Structural Engineering to join their team for the 2026 Summer Employment Program. DESCRIPTION OF WORKAs an engineering intern, you will immerse yourself in civil engineering disciplines, including roadway and pavement design, drainage systems, bridge engineering, construction and materials testing, traffic systems design and operations, and maintenance asset management strategies. This internship is designed to bolster technical skills and translate concepts into real‑world applications while working alongside a team of passionate engineering professionals who prioritize innovation and excellence.
This internship will be for Engineering District 3 which consists of Snyder, Northumberland, Montour, Union, Columbia, Lycoming, Tioga, Bradford and Sullivan counties.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full‑time internship that will run from May 2026 through August 2026
- Work hours will vary based on position
- Travel may be required
- Compensation is credit based:
- Less than 90 credits – $21.23
- Over 90 credits – $22.13
- Telework: This position does not allow telework.

Qualifications
Internship Requirements:
- Must be currently enrolled or intending to enroll full‑time or part‑time in a two‑year degree, bachelor’s degree, or advanced degree program.
- Acceptable major includes engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Must be a Pennsylvania resident or currently enrolled at a Pennsylvania college or university.
- In good academic standing (GPA 2.0 or higher).
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
Additional Requirements:
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
