University of Illinois Extension is based in the College of ACES and works with all colleges and units of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

The Extension Educator serves as a regular, full time, 12-month academic professional with primary responsibility for the development, delivery, and evaluation of educational programs supporting the mission of the University of Illinois Extension. Serves as an aid to the 4-H Camp Director in all aspects of the camp program but will be the primary person in charge of operating leadership programs both on site at 4-H Memorial Camp and at off-site locations approved by Extension administration.

Adventure programs may include but are not limited to team challenge course (low ropes), climbing, rappelling, zip-line, and other high ropes activities. All low and high ropes and adventure programs will be managed according to American Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) and American Camping Association (ACA) standards.

One full-time position is available.

4-H Memorial Camp in Monticello, IL

(This position is required to live on site at the 4-H Memorial Camp.)

This is a security-sensitive position. Comprehensive background checks, including but not limited to a criminal conviction information check, a CANTS check, and a review of the Registered Sex Offender list, will be conducted.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Program Development, Delivery and Evaluation

* Schedule, coordinate, and conduct adventure programs at 4-H Memorial Camp for clients of residential camping programs and day-use only user groups. This work will involve selection and training of camp staff, organization of contracts, participant registration materials, and all pre- and post-program logistics. Programs will be conducted on-site at 4-H Memorial Camp and may occur at other locations as appropriate.

* Develop and implement programs that will enhance the leadership, communication, and team building skills of the participants through collaboration and cooperation with other universities, secondary schools, or private organizations.

* Teach Extension volunteers, Extension staff, agency personnel, teachers, and youth in content areas based on research in the areas of communication, leadership, teamwork, youth life skills, and educational design.

* Provide input to content and scheduling of the 4-H summer camp programs.

* Conduct programs for Counselor-In-Training Program involving teenage campers.

* Assist with the selection, design, construction, and maintenance inspections of new and existing challenge events.

* Conduct and document annual inspection of challenge course facilities. Coordinate all maintenance and upgrades to adventure program facilities as necessary.

* Prepare promotional flyers, brochures, web sites, social media, and various printed pieces of information for marketing 4-H youth and adventure programs.

* Work jointly with Camp Director to coordinate and host user groups at 4-H Memorial Camp.

Organizational Leadership and Development

* Supervise staff in all aspects of the camp program in the absence of the Camp Director.

* Serve as the on-premises point of contact during the youth camps and retreats in case of an overnight emergency.…
