Position DescriptionCement finishers are responsible for placement and surface preparation of concrete in conformance with the project requirements. This is a safety‑sensitive position.
Essential Duties- Positioning themselves on the concrete forms and moving the pump hose or concrete bucket into place for pouring.
- Leveling the top surface of freshly poured concrete to meet tolerances for thickness and flatness before curing.
- Applying a bull float to further smooth the surface.
- Applying hardening and sealing compounds to cure the surface, including waterproofing and damp‑proofing.
- Installing anchor bolts, steel plates and other fixtures in freshly poured concrete.
- Operating a trowel to finish the surface after the concrete has reached a semi‑cured status.
- Promoting a safe work environment and communicating jobsite hazards.
High School/GED
Additional Qualifications- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Driver’s License required.
- Follow safe work practices in accordance with the Hensel Phelps safety and health program.
- Take initiative and possess keen attention to detail.
- Provide own safety footwear.
- Communicate effectively and professionally.
- Strong mathematical reasoning and quantitative skills.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Experience in construction layout, blueprint reading and shop drawing reading.
- OSHA 10 Certification.
- CPR & First Aid Certification.
- Heavy work: exerting up to 100 lbs occasionally, up to 50 lbs frequently, and up to 20 lbs constantly.
- Walking, kneeling, sitting, crouching, reaching, stooping, reading/seeing, speaking, pushing, pulling, lifting, standing, finger/type.
- Operations may involve a computer or tablet and other office equipment.
- Communication with employees and external stakeholders.
- Reading and understanding blueprints, load charts, and field measurements.
- Climbing or working from heights.
- Balanced and stooping movements, reaching, grasping, visual acuity, hearing commands.
- Exposure to temperatures, noise, outdoor elements, dusts, chemicals, and respirator use.
