Alabama State University, Office of Facilities Management & Operations invites applications to fill the position of Plumber. The selected candidate will perform a variety of plumbing tasks in accordance with standard trade practices in the installation and maintenance of plumbing fixtures and accessories installed in university buildings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Install, maintain, and repair water lines, sewer, lavatories, urinals, gas lines and gas heaters
* Assemble, install, and repair pipes, fittings and fixtures of heating, water and drainage systems according to specifications and plumbing codes
* Cut and thread pipe using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and pipe threading machine
* Bend pipes to required angle by using a pipe bending machine
* Assemble and install valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metal and non-metal
* Join pipes systems using screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and caulking
* Fill pipe systems with water or air and check for leaks using a pressure gauge
* Install and repair plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners
* Repair and maintain plumbing by replacing washers in leaky faucets, mend burst pipes, and open clogged drains and perform other job related duties as assigned.
High school diploma or GED, completion of a certified plumbing program, and 8 years of experience as a journeyman plumber are required.
