Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a Float Pool position across multiple critical care units, requiring at least 2 years of experience and an AL or compact RN license.

Details
  • Float Pool ICU position covering multiple critical care units:
    General Cardiac ICU (10 beds), CVICU (12 beds), MICU (14 beds), Neuro ICU (14 beds), and Surgical ICU (14 beds)
  • Patient populations vary by unit and include STEMI, post-cardiac cath, respiratory failure, post-cardiac arrest, stroke, sepsis, post-op CABG/valve/vascular surgery, V-A and V-V ECMO, acute liver/renal failure, DKA, trauma, and neurological emergencies such as CVA, SAH, SDH, and seizures
  • Required skills span across units and include vent management, hemodynamic monitoring, arterial lines, IABP, Impella, EKOS, CRRT (Prisma Flex), Swan-Ganz catheters, chest tubes, Flo Trac monitoring, titratable drip management, hypothermia protocol, trach care, EVD, ICP monitoring, vasopressor and sedation management, wound care, and Tandem Life/Tandem Lung
  • Patient ratio is 1:2
  • RNs are required to read and interpret ICU telemetry/monitoring strips
  • EMR:
    Cerner (experience required for first-time travelers; preferred for all others)
  • IV pumps:
    Plum 360 | Medication dispensing:
    Omnicell | Monitors:
    Spacelabs
  • Shift hours: 12-hour nights, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 36 hours/week
  • Schedule runs on a 6-week cycle
  • Every other weekend rotation required; back-to-back weekends possible but rare
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required to like units (ICU-to-ICU, ICU-to-MS task with a limit of 3, ICU-to-ER/ICU holds)
Requirements
  • Active AL RN license or compact RN license required (can submit pending with ETA)
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
  • Cerner or Epic EMR experience required for first-time travelers
  • Must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • Former permanent staff must have a minimum 6-month gap before being considered as a traveler
  • Required documentation for consideration: 1 reference from a charge nurse or above within the past 12 months, copy of certifications, full SSN, and DOB (day and month)
Additional Information
  • Travelers will be assigned a home unit on the first day of orientation
  • New travelers to the facility or those returning after 1+ year away will complete 24 hours of classroom orientation followed by 24 hours of on-unit orientation; orientation schedule for rehires will be assessed based on last date of service
  • Unit support includes CNAs (1:10 ratio), a charge nurse per shift, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalist coverage
  • Holiday coverage required per policy: one major and one minor seasonal holiday
  • Multiple RTO blackout periods apply throughout the year — please discuss scheduling needs with your recruiter prior to accepting the position

  • Staff parking is available on campus in a dedicated parking deck
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply with at least 2 years of experience and Cerner or Epic EMR experience
