American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a Float Pool ICU position in Montgomery, AL, requiring at least 2 years of experience and critical care skills across multiple ICU specialties.
Details- Float Pool ICU position with assignment to a home unit on the first day of orientation
- Eligible home units include General Cardiac ICU (10 beds), CVICU (12 beds), MICU (14 beds), Neuro ICU (14 beds), and Surgical ICU (14 beds)
- General Cardiac ICU patient types include STEMI, post heart cath with interventions, respiratory failure/ventilated, post cardiac arrest, post stroke, renal failure, hypertensive emergency, and sepsis
- CVICU patient types include post-op CABG, valve and thoracotomy surgeries, V-A and V-V ECMO, post cardiac arrest, post heart cath, and post-op vascular surgery
- MICU patient types include acute respiratory failure, acute renal failure, acute liver failure, DKA, sepsis/septic shock, and some post-surgical patients
- Neuro ICU is a high-volume, fast-turnover unit with patient types including CVA, SAH, SDH, IPH, and seizures
- Surgical ICU patient types include post-surgical, trauma, vascular, multisystem trauma, and neuro trauma
- Patient ratio of 1:2
- General Cardiac ICU skills include vent care, hemodynamic monitoring, medication titration, arterial lines, IABP, Impella, EKOS, CRRT (Prisma Flex), chest tubes, Swan-Ganz catheter, Flo Trac monitoring, and hypothermia protocol
- CVICU skills include Swan-Ganz catheters, arterial lines, hemodynamic monitoring, chest tubes, CRRT, medication titration, IABP, Impella, EKOS, vent management, and Tandem Life/Tandem Lung
- MICU skills include art lines, trach care, chest tubes, vasopressor and sedation management, and central lines
- Neuro ICU skills include trach care, arterial lines, vent/ETT, and EVD; ICP monitoring can be taught on the job
- Surgical ICU skills include trach care, art lines, chest tubes, wound care, and drip management (pressors and sedation); CRRT preferred
- EMR:

Monitors:
Spacelabs - ICU monitoring required — RNs must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
- 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM), with day shift availability (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM); 6-week schedule cycle
- Floating may be required to like units (ICU-to-ICU, ICU-to-MS task limited to 3, or ICU-to-ER/ICU holds)
- Weekend rotation every other weekend; back-to-back weekends are rare but possible
- No on-call requirements
- Active AL RN license or compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of ICU nursing experience required
- First-time travelers must have at least 2 years of experience and Cerner or Epic EMR experience
- Cerner experience preferred
- Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Required documentation for consideration includes: 1 reference from a charge nurse or above from the past 12 months, copy of certifications, full SSN, and date of birth (day and month)
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply with at least 2 years of experience and Cerner or Epic experience
- Unit support includes CNAs (1:10 ratio), a charge nurse per shift, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalist coverage
- Orientation consists of 24 hours of classroom time followed by 24 hours on the unit for new-to-facility travelers or those returning after 1+ year absence; rehire orientation is assessed based on the last date of service
- Holiday coverage is required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy
- Several RTO blackout dates apply throughout the year — candidates should be aware of scheduling restrictions around major holidays and select weekends
