RN Mentor (Nurse Mentor Progressive Care Unit FT)
Baptist Health is the largest healthcare system serving central Alabama, providing comprehensive hospital-based and outpatient services to nearly 60 percent of the residents in Montgomery, Autauga and Elmore counties. The RN – Mentor shall be tasked to develop and implement a model for mentorship for nursing staff. The Mentor will serve as a role model, leader, consultant, collaborator, educator, and clinician. The Mentor will collaborate with unit Educators, Preceptors, and Nursing Leadership to assess the needs of clinical nurses.
This individual shall participate in the delivery of new clinical staff orientation. As a member of the nursing team, the Mentor will establish a setting that supports professional nursing practice and empowers nurses to provide safe, effective, compassionate, and efficient nursing care in collaboration with all health care disciplines. The Mentor will make rounds to meet with clinical nurses to provide guidance and oversee less experienced nurses and to help facilitate their career development while providing training to aspiring nurses, nursing students, or licensed staff.
The Mentor will prepare and deliver nursing‑related education lectures and case studies to assigned nurses. Additionally, the Mentor will provide patient care in areas where needed to assist the unit and nursing team. The Mentor will also collaborate with Directors and Management to determine other necessary functions which will optimize patient outcomes and mentorship for the nursing team. This position may have additional duties assigned that are within scope of the role.
& Experience
Degree in Nursing required, BSN preferred, MSN highly preferred. Minimum 5 years of medical surgical, intensive care, or specialty nursing clinical and/or teaching experience in acute care.
License & CertificationActive RN licensure, BLS required. Additional certifications (ACLS, PALS, NRP, other specialty certifications) may be required depending upon unit assigned.

Physical Requirements
Position requires sitting for 20 % of the workday and mobility 80 % of the workday. There is occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching. Frequent reaching, use of hands and repetitive action. Requires occasional lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 150 pounds. Continuous need for speaking with clear diction and hearing sensitivity in conversation either by phone or in person. Continuous visual acuity at close and distant range.
Inside protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Minimal noise levels. Exposure to computer work, risk of electrical shock, infectious disease, hazardous chemicals, and occasional radiation.
