Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations.

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform manual and semi-skilled labor in the installation and maintenance of traffic control signs and/or pavement markings. Position incumbents spend a majority of their time performing labor-intensive duties; once proficient at these duties, incumbents are trained on the skilled aspects of the job, including performing traffic control sign and striping layout, the rules and guidelines governing traffic control signs and striping, and the operation of striping and sign construction equipment.

Position incumbents are primarily assigned to either the Street Striping subdivision or the Signing subdivision and perform the duties associated with that subdivision; however, all position incumbents are cross-trained on the duties of both subdivisions and can be utilized as needed.

Primary work responsibilities may include:

• Preparing road surfaces for painting.
• Setting up and tearing down barricades and safety cones.
• Assisting in the installation and revitalization of traffic control pavement markings.
• Assisting in the installation, removal, replacement, and maintenance of street and traffic control signs.
• Operating center line and hand striping machines, thermoplastic machines and melting kettles, cold laid plastic machines, bituminous machines, and core hole drills.
• Assisting in the construction of street and traffic control signs.
• Performing additional duties in service to the department.
