Patient Registration Specialist
Baptist Health is the largest healthcare system serving central Alabama, providing comprehensive hospital‑based and outpatient services to nearly 60 percent of the residents in Montgomery, Autauga and Elmore counties.
OverviewThe Patient Registration Specialist shall be responsible for pre‑registration, registration, payer identification, verification, referral to financial counseling, and point‑of‑service collections. This role ensures that data gathered and entered into the computer system(s) of patient demographic and benefit information is accurate. The Specialist verifies benefits eligibility and limitations, coordination of benefits, and determines and collects the patient’s financial responsibility at the point of service.
The role requires understanding of regulatory requirements including medical necessity determination, Medicare Secondary Payer, Medicare issuance and signage, HIPAA, and EMTALA. This position may have additional duties within scope.
- High school graduate or equivalent required.
- Associate’s degree in healthcare or business‑related field preferred.
- Bilingual capability (English/Spanish) desirable.
- At least 2 years’ experience in a medical or hospital patient access or financial services environment preferred; training experience a plus.
- Knowledge of government programs such as Medicare and Medicaid.
