The Auxiliary Teacher provides support to the instructional program within assigned early childhood classrooms, working with individual and small groups of students, and providing clerical support to teachers. They adapt classroom activities to reinforce goals and objectives and assist with weekly lesson planning.

Auxiliary Teachers receive daily instructions from lead teachers regarding classroom activities. They assist in managing students, helping with assignments, and maintaining a safe, positive environment during activities and on the playground. They also create instructional materials such as posters, cutouts, and flashcards, and support teachers during field trips and other activities.

This is a grant-funded position and is not eligible for tenure.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Understanding of child development and age-appropriate activities
• Knowledge of safety rules in the workplace
• Basic computer skills for data entry and communication
• Assist students individually or in groups to reinforce learning
• Implement instructional plans under supervision
• Monitor classroom and playground activities for safety
• Maintain confidentiality of student and program data
• Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor

• High school diploma or GED
• Completion of the Work-Keys Assessment
• Child Development Associate credential (CDA) or at least 9 credit hours in Early Childhood Education or Child Development
• Ability to perform moderate physical exertion
• Background clearance (FBI and ABI)
• Experience working with early childhood children is preferred
• Other qualifications as required by the board
