Salary Range: $53,269 to $71,025 (DOE)
Job Summary:
The HR Generalist is responsible for performing human resources related duties on a professional level under the direction of the HR Director. These duties include administering human resources policies, procedures and programs, as well as performing any other day-to-day operations of the human resources office. The HR Generalist works closely with the HR Director to support operating sites. The carrying out of responsibilities in the following functional areas is expected: benefits administration, employee relations, training & development, compensation, performance management, policy implementation, onboarding, recruitment/employment, and employment law compliance.

Duties & ResponsibilitiesHR Administration
- Answer general employee questions, data entry into the HR system and administering health benefit plans.
- Evaluate and respond to human resource issues and when appropriate, consult with local HR departments, divisional HR leaders and VP of Human Resources.
- Serve as departmental resource by effectively interpreting and administering human resources policies, procedures, and plans.
- Oversee accurate Human Resources Information System (HRIS) records and compile reports. Conduct Internal HR audits.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefits laws and regulations.
- Prepare termination and severance letters. Assist in exit interviews.
- Administer the random drug testing.
- Work with the mill managers annually to update the employee handbooks.
- Ensure the state and federal mandatory postings are current and accurate.
- Participate in process reviews, policy development teams, and other opportunities for involvement with continuous improvement and best practices.
- Maintain Records - creating, maintaining, storing, securing and destroying employee records.
- All changes or updates to paperwork must be made within one business day and filed within the same work week.
- Ensure the files are secure and safe from theft or tampering. Destroy records when they are no longer relevant.
- Assist with the performance evaluation and merit increase process.
- Coordinate recruitment efforts for exempt and nonexempt personnel, as well as temporary employees. Includes updating job descriptions and job postings, screening candidates, interviewing, selection and orientation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Counsel with site management and advise on issues as a trusted HR business partner.
- Under direction from the HR Director, participate in developing department goals, objectives and systems.
- Improve efficiency of department and services performed.
- Plan, develop, and coordinate the implementation of training programs.
- Communicate with area personnel, associates, and management with high professionalism and confidentiality.
- Assist in employee relations issues. Counsel associates and managers concerning job related matters.
- Conduct New Hire Orientations and ensure all employment documents are current and complete.
- Perform benefits administration including claims resolution, change reporting, and communicating benefits information to employees.
- Assist in the performance appraisal process, including counseling managers and supervisors on the program.
- Work with management to create and implement safety plans while ensuring that they are being followed daily
- Conduct New Hire Orientation and training on all essential safety policies
- Educate employees on safety standards and expectations as well as safe machinery operation
- Conduct monthly safety training for all employees
- Work with management to implement safety procedures and follow up to be sure they are followed
- Work with management to organize a Central Safety Committee (CSC) and support hourly employees in leading the CSC
- Maintain proper safety equipment and personal protective equipment for employees.
- Manage the Hazard Communication process.
- Provide recommendations for improving safety in the workplace.
- Investigate accidents that occur onsite and identify possible causes of the accident.
