Systems Engineer, Electrical Engineering
TETAC, Inc. is a defense contractor specializing in energetic payloads, payload attachment and release mechanisms, and remote fire initiation systems for unmanned ground, aerial, and maritime platforms. Based in Monterey, California, TETAC designs and manufactures advanced, mission-critical hardware in support of a range of U.S. Department of War customers.
Position SummaryWe are seeking a full-time Embedded Systems Engineer to support the design, prototyping, integration, and testing of remote fire initiation systems in a fast-paced, small-team environment.
Day-to-day responsibilities will include development of MIL-STD–compliant remote fire initiation systems intended for use across a wide range of unmanned platforms, including terrestrial, maritime, and aerial domains.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Embedded Systems, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field
- 4+ years of hands-on experience designing and deploying embedded systems for safety-critical or mission-critical applications (defense, aerospace, industrial controls, robotics, or similar)
- Strong experience developing bare-metal and/or RTOS-based firmware in C/C++ for microcontrollers and So Cs
- Solid working knowledge of embedded hardware design, including schematics, component selection, power regulation, and board-level bring-up
- Experience integrating embedded systems with RF communications modules, including secure or encrypted data links
- Practical understanding of RF fundamentals, including antennas, link budgets, interference, latency, and EMI/EMC considerations
- Familiarity with secure communications concepts, including authentication, encryption, key management, and link-loss handling
- Experience designing, analyzing, or controlling low-voltage and high-voltage circuits, including switching, isolation, and energy storage
- Understanding of arming, safing, and inhibit concepts in safety-critical activation systems
- Ability to design and implement fail-safe system architectures, deterministic state machines, and fault detection mechanisms
- Proficiency with hardware and firmware debugging tools, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG/SWD, and related lab equipment
- Ability to work effectively in a small, multidisciplinary team, collaborating closely with mechanical and systems engineering
- U.S. person eligible to work on DoD-related programs; ability to obtain or hold a security clearance is a plus
- Experience with energetic devices, fire sets, ESADs, or ordnance-related systems
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-1316 or other DoD arming and safing standards
- Prior work on remote initiation, firing circuits, or high-reliability switching systems
- Experience integrating DoD-approved RF systems (e.g., Silvus, Doodle Labs, Persistent Systems, Trellis Ware, or similar)
- Experience integrating acoustic modem systems
- Knowledge of EMI/EMC mitigation techniques for mixed-signal and high-voltage designs
- Experience with secure boot, firmware signing, and anti-tamper measures
Exposure to environmental sensing or lockout mechanisms (shock, temperature, motion, or tamper detection) - Familiarity with verification, validation, and safety documentation for defense or regulated programs
- Prior experience supporting TRL maturation, prototypes, or transition to fielded systems
This position requires access to technical data and/or hardware that is controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
