Responsibilities

Core Instructional Faculty Functions:

  • Teach courses in Kinesiology, Athletics, and related disciplines according to official Course Outlines of Record, promoting equitable student learning and achievement.
  • Design and deliver academic courses and programs that reflect current discipline and industry standards and support equitable attainment of learning outcomes.
  • Assist in systematic review and assessment of academic courses and programs through College processes, including outcomes assessment and program review.
  • Collaborate with other faculty to enhance instruction, curriculum, and student success.
  • Participate in the development and/or selection of course materials, equipment, technology, and online education to enhance course offerings.
  • Maintain expertise in current teaching methodologies, technologies, and curricula, developing new instructional materials and techniques that meet student and curricular needs.
  • Provide support to students during scheduled office hours.
  • Serve as a member of division, department, and college committees.
  • Perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and general institutional needs.
  • Provide instruction and student support at a variety of times and locations—day, evening, online, and at the Monterey, Marina, Seaside campuses, or other designated locations—to meet student and curricular needs.
  • Discipline-Specific Functions:

  • Teach a variety of Kinesiology courses, including athletics, physical fitness, physical education, and Kinesiology.
  • Coach Women’s Basketball or Softball, performing related duties such as scheduling, recruiting, fundraising, and ensuring compliance with California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) rules.
  • Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications
    • Master’s degree in kinesiology, physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise, or adaptive physical education.
    • OR Bachelor’s degree in any of the above areas AND a Master’s degree in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration, or physical therapy.
    • OR The equivalent of the above, with demonstrated understanding, sensitivity to, and appreciation of the diverse backgrounds of community college students.
    Desirable Qualifications
    • Knowledge of and commitment to community college teaching, including experience meeting the needs of learners from diverse backgrounds.
    • Experience working cooperatively with staff, colleagues, and students.
    • Experience in promoting student success and retention through advising and academic progress monitoring.
    • Effective oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to meet the needs of community college learners with diverse backgrounds.
    • Head coach experience in Basketball or Softball at the high school, community college, or university level.
    • Experience teaching a variety of Kinesiology courses.
