- 16 years of age or older
- A completed work permit, if the candidate is under 18 years of age (at time of hire)
- 3 years of Lifeguard experience required, 1 year of Assistant Pool Manager experience preferred
- American Red Cross Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid (at time of hire)
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (at time of hire)
* If you are not currently working towards the certifications listed above, the City will be offering a certification course from March 30, 2026, through April 3, 2026. The City will not be offering an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor course at this time.
PHYSICAL EFFORTThose in this position are exposed to the sun, water, and chemicals generally used in pool maintenance.
WORK SCHEDULEThe pool is open seven (7) days a week, and candidates must be available to work all assigned shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
TESTING PROCESSCandidates whose qualifications most closely meet the needs of the City will be invited to participate in a Swim Assessment and Oral Board Interviews. Candidates must pass both the Swim Assessment and Oral Board Interviews to be considered for the position. The Swim Assessment will consist of the following components:
- Timed 400-yard swim utilizing either front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination
- Two (2) minute water tread utilizing ONLY legs
- Completion of a timed course including a 25-yard swim, surface dive to an 8-foot depth to retrieve a 10lb object, hold object above water surface, return object to the deck and exit pool unassisted
- Ability to properly explain and demonstrate various Pool Entries, such as Slid-in, Stride Jump, Compact Jump, and Feet First Surface Dive
- Ability to properly execute various Rescue and Extrication Techniques such as:
Active Victim, Passive victim, Submerged Passive Victim, and Reaching Assist from Deck
* Candidates who are appointed to Aquatics positions will be required to attend a 25-hour in-service training program tentatively scheduled for May 30, 2026, through June 7, 2026.
