Replacement Bank - On CallSpecial Education Technician
Under the responsibility of the school administration and in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team, the employee works with a multidisciplinary team to apply special education techniques and methods in keeping with an individualized education plan intended for handicapped students or students with social maladjustments or learning difficulties or in keeping with a program designed for students requiring specific support.
Characteristic Functions- Participates in developing and drawing up an individualized education plan; selects the measures to attain the objectives;
- Develops action plan and applies measures; assesses objectives; evaluates the plan;
- Prepares, organizes, and conducts educational or pedagogical support, cultural and recreational activities, and sports activities to develop social, cognitive, psycho‑motor, communication or other skills;
- Prepares and adapts materials for these activities;
- Works with other staff to determine and carry out additional educational activities such as practicum organization and supervision;
- Assists students with learning activities in class; helps with reading, writing, lessons, and homework;
- Counsels students, applies crisis intervention techniques to maintain calm and order, and supports behavior modification;
- Provides classroom support to ensure a conducive learning environment;
- Applies communication techniques adapted to student needs, informs students of various disorders or dependencies, and provides referral to specialized resources;
- Supervises students following sanctions, assists with schoolwork and reintegration conditions;
- May accompany students with special needs on school bus arrivals and departures;
- Records observations and interventions, keeps files, and prepares reports;
- Works with youth protection organizations and external interveners when necessary;
- Collaborates with students, parents, and teachers to provide advice, information, and referrals;
- Administers medication according to medical requirements and policy; provides first aid;
- Uses computer and software needed for duties;
- Trains less experienced technicians and coordinates support staff work related to technical operations.
Hold a Diploma of College Studies in special care counseling or an equivalent diploma or attestation of studies recognized by the competent authority.

Board Requirements- Training in Autism would be an asset
- Experience working with students with special needs and creation of IEPs
- Experience working with teaching staff and pedagogy
- Knowledge of appropriate intervention with challenging behaviors
- Computer skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a team setting
- Good communication skills
- Bilingual
- Certificate dated no more than three (3) years attesting to successful completion of a standard first‑aid course of a minimum eight (8) hour duration
- Refresher course of a minimum six (6) hour duration updating the skills of the first-aid course
