Supervisor - Mine Development

Location: East Boulder Mine - McLeod, MT

Schedule: Rotating - 5

Day Shift: 5:30am - 6:30pm

Night Shift: 5:30pm - 6:30am

Job Responsibilities and Duties

At Sibanye-Stillwater, the Supervisor will provide leadership and supervision for a safe, efficient, and sustainable operation in alignment with planned budgeted goals. The supervisor will promote and maintain a safe work environment, safe work practices, and a strong safety culture by ensuring that employees have all the necessary tools, knowledge, and skills to perform their jobs efficiently. The Supervisor will be responsible for creating and integrating Weekly and Monthly plans into a Daily Shift Plan, and will be accountable for the communication and execution of those Shift Plans.

This position will provide visible leadership among crew and peers and be able to develop and manage balanced work groups including the allocation and sharing of resources. Communication of accurate information in a timely manner and collaboration is paramount to the success of this role.

  • Communicate production and safety goals with the crew, maintain production and training schedules, manage time cards, and perform record keeping duties as directed.
  • Create an environment that promotes teamwork and innovation, and actively seek feedback from the workforce for continuous improvements.
  • Hold people accountable in a consistent manner, document performance as required, resolve non-conformance issues, and address employee issues with appropriate resources.
  • Collect and assemble information to communicate accurate pass downs.
  • Understand and work within the budget.
  • Develop backup plans to prevent changes and variances.
  • Set and maintain standards and expectations for housekeeping.
  • Coordinate and conduct work area inspections and safety meetings.
  • Collaborate with the Training department, facilitate and document task training.
  • Maximize utilization of key equipment and systems in line with company operating policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental and certifying authority requirements.
  • Advise on the selection of prospective employees.
  • Provide input and feedback on Business Improvement initiatives.
  • Work with Engineering to ensure that panel design maintains a balance between productivity and safety.
  • Conduct QA/QC inspections of drilling and blasting to ensure quality and standards are being maintained.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Working knowledge of underground mining operations including safety, production, maintenance, economics, equipment, and staff utilization.
  • Leadership qualities including character, teamwork, communication, business sense and vision.
  • Basic understanding of all underground mining operations, maintenance processes, and infrastructure.
  • Solid understanding and application of MSHA regulations and compliance.
  • Excellent leadership abilities, including the ability to train and mentor hourly employees, assist in conflict resolution, and encourage teamwork.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to include the ability to effectively train employees on various assignments/equipment and accurate and detailed record keeping.
  • Must meet and maintain qualifications for working with explosives per the Safe Explosives Act.
  • Basic computer and math skills, plus the ability to learn and utilize authorized computer software.
  • Independent Work Habits.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma and a minimum of 5 years related work experience; or bachelor's degree in mining or related field with a minimum of 2 years related work experience.
  • Experience with MSHA regulations.
  • Previous leadership experience.
