Mine Improvement Lead
Location: Work location will be at both East Boulder (McLeod, MT) and Stillwater Mine (Nye, MT) with time also spent in Columbus, MT. Travel between sites is required for this position.
Schedule: 5x2, 4x3 9hr Shifts
Responsibilities and DutiesAt Sibanye-Stillwater, the Mine Improvement Lead plays a key role in driving continuous improvement and advancing operational excellence across the U.S. PGM region. This position is responsible for coordinating, monitoring, and guiding initiatives that focus on enhancing mine performance, safety, efficiency, and sustainability. The incumbent will evaluate strategic improvement opportunities with both a critical eye to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and risks—and an innovative outlook to introduce creative solutions and modern practices.
In doing so, the Lead will ensure that current mining methods, technologies, and processes are effectively aligned with the Company s long-term objectives.
- Functions as a liaison between technical services and operation personnel.
- Foster an inclusive environment that promotes teamwork, innovation, and actively seek feedback from the workforce for continuous improvements.
- Foster positive, cooperative relationships with other groups in the Company.
- Coordinates resources and efforts to complement all areas in realizing overall mine goals.
- Foster cooperation, collaboration, and innovation to ensure that resource value is being maximized.
- Oversee multiple working projects and take appropriate action in supporting a positive and inclusive work environment.
- May be asked to oversee employees working on, or assigned to, the project s success.
- Understand the cost associated with business decisions and scope of work.
- Oversee the implementation of strategic improvement efforts and track the progress. Efforts may include, but are not limited to, equipment evaluation and selection, mining technology upgrades, changes to mining methods, changes to blasting practices, and mining optimization efforts.
- Develop and present material on complex processes to site and corporate leadership.
- Ability to take on complex tasks with no supervision and be able to identify areas of improvement with little consultation.
- Evaluate and report improvement efforts from a frontline perspective.
- Reports all progress of strategic improvement efforts to central engineering.
- Promote and maintain a safe work environment, safe work practices, and a strong safety culture.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to work autonomously, as well as within a team-based environment.
- Advanced understanding of MSHA regulations.
- Familiarity with a variety of mining methods.
- Advanced understanding of underground mining equipment, underground infrastructure, and changing mining technologies and methods.
- Strong project management skills.
- High School Diploma, or equivalent, with a minimum of 10 years of experience in underground mining.
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Previous project management experience preferred.
- Microsoft Office experience preferred.
