Job Summary
General Manager I Store 4364 Shelby MT at Advance Auto Parts. The role requires a professional sales and management leader who inspires the team, ensures customer service excellence, and drives business growth with integrity. Responsibilities include managing both professional and parts functions, supporting technology and automotive systems, and maintaining financial and operational standards.
ScheduleExempt position requiring 50‑55 hours per week (excluding meal breaks). Typical schedule is 5‑6 days a week, 11‑hour shifts with rotating nights and weekends, one hour lunch. Additional hours may be required to meet staffing, sales, or business demands.
Responsibilities Primary Responsibilities- Achieve overall store sales goals and service objectives.
- Manage and grow professional customer relationships and sales, including executing customer action plans.
- Select, hire, develop, manage performance, coach, schedule, and engage store team members.
- Ensure execution of all inventory and operational standards.
- Coach all team members to deliver on customer expectations (DIY and professional).
- Perform on‑duty responsibilities: coaching, floor/phone management, task assignment, safety, and open/close duties.
- Lead change management initiatives.
- Promote diversity and foster a respectful environment for customers and team members.
- Provide DIY services such as battery installation, testing, wiper install, etc.
- Assist district/region in additional functions upon request.
- Friendly communication.
- Ability to locate and stock parts.
- Safety knowledge and skills.
- Potential to become ASE P2 certified or equivalent.
- Execute and train project and product quality recommendations.
- Advanced parts lookup and sourcing.
- Source from multiple channels including special order, FDO, second source, etc.
- Train on store operational processes, diagnostics, inventory systems, and POS.
- Analyze P&L statements.
- Recruit, select, hire, and develop quality team members.
- Build and grow relationships with professional customers.
Job Skills
- Working knowledge of automotive systems preferred.
- Fluent in English;
Spanish a plus. Effective communication with customers, peers, and upper management. - Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel; PowerPoint preferred).
- Calculate discounts, percentages, sales increases, and gross profit.
- Review and analyze business reports such as P&L.
- Hold others accountable, inspect work quality, and give inspiring feedback.
- Flexible to work assorted days, evenings, and weekends as needed.
- 2‑3 years managing a team of 10‑20 in a fast‑paced retail environment.
- Proven financial and business acumen; managing profitability.
High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred. Valid driver’s license required. ASE certification preferred but not required.
Physical DemandsPredominantly walking or standing. Must lift 50+ pounds frequently and 100+ pounds occasionally. Requires speaking, hearing, use of hands and fingers, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Vision: close, distance, color, depth perception, focus adjustment.
Work EnvironmentMostly indoors with occasional outdoor exposure. May involve moving mechanical parts, working at heights, exposure to chemicals, electrical shock, explosives, vibration, and moderate noise levels.
CompensationBase salary $45,000–$58,000 plus bonus structure (6% commission on sales and .45% of controllable profit). Final salary determined by hiring manager.
Benefits401(k) eligibility starting first day with company match up to 4%; health, dental, vision, life, STD/LTD, pet insurance, EAP. PTO and other benefits after 30 days. 1 week travel for training.
