Summary
Serves as a clinical pharmacist providing direct pharmaceutical care for patients within the Indian Health Service. This position is the major source of pharmaceutical clinical information and is expected to manage selected patients with chronic disease states, as well as providing pharmaceutical care for acute patients.
Duties- Responsible for proper interpretation and dispensing of prescribed products including the review of labeling for directions for use and precautions as necessary to assure proper protection of prescribed products to the patient.
- Provide specialized services to assist patients with managing conditions such as diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure and other chronic illness.
- Provide information and advice about drug therapy and usage, drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper medication storage.
- Maintain records such as pharmacy files, patient records, inventories, and control records for narcotics or controlled drugs.
- Compound and dispense medications as prescribed by physicians, dentists, and other licensed practitioners by calculating, weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients.
- May serve as a pharmacy consultant and advisor to such groups as the therapeutic agents committee, the hospital research committee, and the infection control committee.
- Conditions of employment: Selectee may be subject to a probationary period.
- Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Selective Service: Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Security: This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630; may involve background checks and eligibility requirements.

- Medical/Health: IHS Selectees working in an IHS facility may be subject to vaccine policies; vaccine exemptions may be available per guidance.
- Licensure/Privileges: Must obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges and licensure requirements; failure to obtain or maintain can lead to adverse actions, up to removal from Federal service.
- On-call: On-call hours or standby duty may be required.
- Background/Employment verification: Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check; pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation required.
- Education: Educational prerequisites and transcripts; foreign education requires equivalency documentation where applicable.
To qualify, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of this position. Experience may include paid and unpaid work, including volunteer service. You must clearly identify duties and responsibilities and total hours per week for each position.
- Basic Requirements for Pharmacists:
- Degree:
Doctoral degree in Pharmacy recognized by ACPE or equivalent. - Licensure:
Pharmacist license in a U.S. state, DC, Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory; NAPLEX and MPJE passed. - Medical Color Vision:
Must be able to distinguish basic colors. - Experience:
Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and competencies for the role, including dispensing, medication-use evaluation, pharmacy program administration, medication program planning/monitoring, medication handling procedures, literature research, and maintaining medication records.
This position has an education requirement. Submitting transcripts or course lists is encouraged. Official transcripts required prior to offer. Only accredited schools are credited. Foreign education requires a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency.
