Overview
Summary
This position is located in Glacier National Park, Visitor and Resources Protection Division. Duty station for this position can be either West Glacier or St. Mary, Montana. Government housing may be available.
Duties
- Serves as the senior law enforcement official of the park to ensure the accomplishment of the law enforcement mission of Glacier National Park.
- Responsible for the planning, development, coordination, and administration of law enforcement, wildland fire, resource protection, visitor safety, emergency medical services, search and rescue, structural fire protection, dispatch, fee revenue, and wilderness operations.
- Formulates and administers the annual budgetary plans and overall operating programs for park Visitor and Resource Protection (VRP).
- Represents the VRP Division and the Superintendent on complex park management issues while serving as a key member of the park's senior leadership team.
- Responsible for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with neighboring communities and federal, state, Tribal, local, and Canadian agencies on issues related to law enforcement, emergency services, wildland fire management, and park operations.

This is a secondary-administrative law enforcement position under the special retirement provisions of 5 U.S.
C. 8336 (c) (CSRS) and 5 U. S.
C. 8412 (d) (FERS). Applicants may meet qualification requirements but may not be eligible for special retirement coverage. If selected, they will be placed in the regular retirement system. Details follow about eligibility for CSRS/FERS retirement coverage.
Prior to appointment, selected individuals must be medically fit to perform strenuous duties, pass a medical examination, and pass the Physical Efficiency Battery (PEB) consisting of five components: agility run, bench press, 1.5 mile run, sit and reach, and body composition. Applicants must pass the agility run, bench press, and the 1.5 mile run in the 25th percentile.

- Operate motor vehicles and potentially aircraft or small watercraft; may work in hazardous environments.
Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Credit will be given for qualifying experience. Special notes for federal applicants regarding SF-50s and hours worked per week are included. A mandatory prerequisite exists for prior law enforcement experience in some cases. All applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
- EXPERIENCE:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-13 level, including providing advice to senior management on VRP programs, guiding law enforcement and emergency response, and leading a division or park with a large staff. - Volunteer experience may be credited; information applies to both paid and unpaid experience.
Selective Factors and Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet ALL of the following:
- National Park Service Type I Law Enforcement Commission (or ability to obtain) or equivalent.
- Prior or mandatory prerequisite experience in primary law enforcement for secondary-administrative roles.
- Current, valid State Driver's License by entrance on duty.
AND Applicants must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
- EXPERIENCE:
At least one full year of specialized experience at GS-13 level or equivalent, including advising and directing VRP programs and managing budgets, personnel, and policies.
Additional Requirements
- Uniforms required; uniform allowance provided.
- May be on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift work.
- Training and government charge card responsibilities may apply.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Financial disclosure reporting requirement; complete a new entrant Confidential Financial Disclosure within 30 days of appointment.
