Job Description for Early Kindergarten Teacher

Position:  Early Kindergarten Teacher

Supervision:

* The Elementary School Teacher falls under the primary direction of the K-4 Principal

Job Goal:

The Lolo School District Elementary School teacher serves as the primary classroom instructor for students. This individual is responsible for the delivery of general curriculum instruction in accordance with district curriculum and state standards. The individual should also be ready to use research-based best practices to ensure that students have learned and can apply clearly defined skills and concepts.

Team Approach:

Lolo School District utilizes a Professional Learning Community (PLC) approach to providing a quality education to students and continually improving its educational program.  The attached and recently updated Lolo School Mission and Vision Statements are central to our work. To that end, every employee of the district works with a team approach toward maintaining a quality school system.  The Elementary School teacher is responsible for delivering the appropriate content utilizing research-based best practices;

ensuring students have learned the material, and also implementing interventions when students are struggling to learn the concept. The Elementary School teacher works primarily with his/her PLC team and other professionals to develop assessments, analyze student achievement data, and respond to the academic needs of students. It takes a lot of work to successfully work in a PLC, but the end result at Lolo School has been successful in creating highly collaborative and positive work relationships, not to mention a tight-knit and enjoyable environment, all of which improve the learning culture and opportunities for students.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to effectively perform each of his/her essential duties.  The requirements listed below include but are not limited to the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required of the individual in order to successfully perform his/her job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

* The program recommends that a person hold an early childhood endorsement or its equivalent. Teachers with a K-8 endorsement are also considered qualifed and may apply.

* Successful teaching experience or pre-service internship experience

* Valid Montana Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsements (as necessary)

* Ability to communicate clearly, efficiently, and professionally with colleagues and parents

* Knowledge of Indian Education for All concepts, and familiarity with IEFA integration into the classroom

* Ability to manage daily classroom routines and student behavior

* Familiarity with fundamental assessment approaches; both formative and summative

* Ability to strategically utilize student assessment approaches/results and accompanying data for the purposes of continual improvement in instruction and improvement in student learning.

* Ability to continually review student progress toward defined goals, communicate progress to students, parents and the appropriate PLC teams

* Willingness to work collaboratively with the Lolo School PLC teams, and smaller collaborative teams as necessary

* Understanding of curriculum components, district curriculum, state and national standards for Elementary Education

* Ability to plan lessons, prepare lesson plans, and align teaching with curricular goals

* Ongoing willingness to pursue professional development opportunities  for the purposes of self-improvement and continually improving student learning

* Technologically proficient with word processing, email, and other technology skills essential to success in the job, as well as willingness to learn about and integrate ever-changing technological tools and approaches utilized in providing quality instruction to students

General Responsibilities:

* Teach concepts and develop skills in the general education environment including reading, writing, mathematics, science and social studies, as well as critical thinking, study skills, test preparation/taking strategies and other related areas in accordance with district curriculum and state standards for the assigned grade level.
