General Summary
In accordance with the SKC Mission Statement, the Infant/Toddler Teacher’s primary function is to provide a safe and healthy learning environment and interactions for children enrolled in the Salish Kootenai College Early Learning Center. The Infant/Toddler Teacher serves as the primary caregiver and educator, supporting the learning of children aged 0-23 months. They collaborate with parents, staff members, and other teachers at the Early Learning Center to support children’s developmental needs.
The Infant/Toddler Teacher will support the development of lesson plans, implement activities, observe children’s progress, and document findings in accordance with the Center’s curriculum and assessment policies.
- Promote, encourage, and guide a classroom environment that promotes healthy social-emotional, language, physical, cognitive, and creative development:
- Giving children support and demonstrating respect.
- Assist in the supervision of support staff and student observers.
- Prepares and carries out developmentally appropriate classroom lesson plans. Initiates daily activities that stimulate and challenge the children.
- Promotes healthy social-emotional, language, physical, cognitive, and creative development in children
- Acting as Primary Care Giver to children assigned to your care.
- Promotes emerging language and literacy skills through positive and consistent interaction with the children.
- Organizing a positive and stimulating learning environment.
- Observes and documents the developmental progress of each child.
- Promotes sound nutrition and healthy hygiene practices, such as tooth brushing, hand washing, and healthy eating habits.
- Assuming an equal share of the Center housekeeping responsibilities Ensuring that children are supervised at all times indoors and outdoors.
- Complying with universal precautions in dealing with cleaning, sanitation, disinfecting, hand-washing, the use of disposable gloves, and the disposal of infectious wastes.
- Utilizing positive guidance techniques to teach children while guiding their behavior.
- Function as a contributing member of the Early Learning Center’s team by interacting with and supporting the program’s philosophy and policies through:
- Attendance at all staff meetings and conferences
- Meet and complete all State of Montana and STARS-mandated training and requirements.
- Maintaining confidentiality regarding children, parents, families, and co-workers
- Reporting and discussing incidents and issues with the director promptly
- Complying with all standards in operating the Childcare Center, including the SKC Mission Statement, Childcare Mission Statement, and the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct
- Supports the development of classroom portfolios in accordance with the NAEYC Accreditation Standard
- Participate in child screenings, including ASQ/SE Developmental Screening
- Participate and effectively interact in all Infant activities, including but not limited to sitting and playing on the floor, crawling and walking, and supporting children.
- Standing up and sitting down frequently
- Lifting and manipulating toys, equipment, and children up to 50 lbs
- Engaging in play
- Diaper changes are performed as needed, and the area is cleaned and disinfected as part of regular duties.
- Greet parents/guardians and other visitors.
- Develop a partnership relationship with parents/guardians to work as a cohesive team in supporting the child's and family's needs.
- Participating in special events and meetings for parents and children
- Planning and implementation of parent participation activities
- Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, P-3 or Elementary Education, or working towards one, Or Child Development Associates
- Documented 1-year experience working with children ages 0-5 years in a formal early childhood setting, such as an Early Head Start classroom, childcare facility, family childcare setting, etc. (preferred)
- Knowledge of child development ages 0-3 years Good verbal and communication skills
- Current CPR and First Aid certification or willing to obtain certification upon hire.
