We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Cost Accountant to join our finance team in the boating industry. This role will be reporting to the Costing Manager and consist of monitoring, analysing, and controlling costs related to boat manufacturing, maintenance, and operations. The ideal candidate will combine strong accounting expertise with an understanding of production processes and industry-specific cost drivers

KEY

JOB FUNCTIONS:

Material Costs:

  • Develop and maintain accurate material cost records, including raw materials, components, and subcontracted services.
  • Monitor purchase prices and consumption levels to identify cost drivers.
  • Collaborate with procurement to negotiate favourable supplier terms and track price fluctuations.
  • Ensure bills of materials (BOMs) are correctly costed and updated.

Annual Budget:

  • Participate with the Budget on all existing boat models.
  • Provide cost estimates for new projects, prototypes, and product lines
  • Support management in setting pricing strategies by supplying cost-based insights.
  • Monitor budget adherence and highlight deviations for corrective action
  • Track material usage and identify waste, scrap, and rework costs.
  • Develop KPIs to measure efficiency, such as material yield percentage and scrap rate.
  • Work with production teams to implement waste reduction initiatives.
  • Report on the financial impact of waste and propose cost-saving measures
  • Ensure contract pricing reflects material, labour, and overhead costs accurately
  • Upload contract pricing when necessary.
  • Maintain uom and ensure correct price is reflecting.
  • Ensure procurement is maintaining contract pricing.

Variance analysis:

  • Perform material, labour, and overhead variance analysis against standard costs.
  • Investigate root causes of variances (e.g., supplier price changes, inefficiencies, waste).
  • Prepare variance reports with actionable recommendations.
  • Present findings to management to support operational and financial decision-making.
QUALIFICATIONS AND

EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum qualification:

    Degree in Cost and /or Management Accounting or relevant qualification.
  • 5 years relevant experience in a manufacturing environment in a similar role.
  • Experience in understanding BOMs and costing in a manufacturing environment is essential.
  • Own transport and valid driver’s license.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems, experience with SYSPRO advantageous.
  • Working knowledge of Bills of Material essential.
  • Advanced MS Excel Skills (i.e. Pivot Tables, ODBC reports, Formulas and Macros).

  • Have sound knowledge of cost management principles.

  • Have applicable product/boat industry cost and company knowledge.

  • Must be a systematic person with strong analytical abilities.
  • Must have good communication skills.
  • The ability to multitask.
  • Ability to present organised and thorough information and data appropriate for intended audience.
  • Be flexible, adaptable, able and willing to modify activities and direction with an ever-changing business environment.
  • Ability to take full responsibility and accountability as per the scope of work.
  • Willingness to work overtime as and when required.
