Job Summary

The Chronic Registered Nurse (RN) provides and coordinates clinically competent care for patients with End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) in a chronic hemodialysis setting. This role involves assessment, treatment, and evaluation of patient progress while promoting safety, adherence, and quality outcomes. As part of the interdisciplinary ESKD care team, the RN contributes to patient education, leadership, and process improvement initiatives that support excellence in patient care and facility operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments before, during, and after dialysis treatments, documenting all findings accurately in the medical record.
  • Modify treatment plans as appropriate in collaboration with the physician, charge nurse, or supervisor.
  • Provide education to patients and families regarding treatment procedures, disease management, and transplant options.
  • Administer medications as prescribed and document their effectiveness.
  • Ensure safe, effective, and efficient hemodialysis delivery while maintaining compliance with all clinical protocols.
  • Support and guide Patient Care Technicians, LPNs/LVNs, and other clinical staff in daily operations.
  • Participate in staff training, onboarding, and continuing education programs.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory collection, processing, and documentation procedures.
  • Demonstrate leadership behaviors consistent with the organization’s core values and guiding principles.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and follow established safety and infection control standards.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Provides oversight for Patient Care Technicians, LPNs/LVNs, and RNs as a Team Leader or designated Nurse in Charge after meeting:
    • Minimum 9 months RN experience.
    • Minimum 3 months chronic/acute hemodialysis experience.
    • Successful completion of all required company training.
Education & Licensure
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Current Wisconsin RN license (or eligibility to obtain before start).
  • CPR/BLS certification required.
  • Must meet all state nursing practice requirements.
Experience & Required Skills
  • At least 1 year of nephrology nursing experience within the last two years.
  • Chronic hemodialysis experience required.
  • Strong patient assessment, critical‑thinking, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a high‑volume clinical setting.
  • Competent in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems and basic computer applications.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
  • Involves direct patient care, lifting, and assisting with patient mobility.
  • May lift or move dialysis machines and related equipment up to 200 lbs. (with assistance).
  • Requires standing and bending for extended periods.
  • Exposure to a clinical healthcare environment and infectious materials.
  • May require travel to nearby facilities or training sites.
  • Must pass the Ishihara Color Blindness Test (reasonable accommodations available).
