SummaryReporting directly to the Director of Operations Finance, this position is responsible for all operational accounting, control and financial reporting for a food production facility in accordance with US and Swiss GAAP. The Plant Controller has ultimate responsibility for the Operational accounting, financial analysis and reporting of the assigned location(s).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Function as the “co-pilot” to Plant manager (PM) working with PM and plant staff to drive operational performance and financial success.
- Prepare and/or oversee timely and accurate preparation of monthly financial reviews including all key KPIs as defined by PM as well as senior management.
- Perform bi-annual fixed asset inventory.
- Responsible for annual standard cost process at each location with full understanding of changes in annual rates due to overhead, labor, volume etc.
- Responsible for Monthly (forecast), Quarterly (Commitment) and Annual (BU) forecasting process. Working with PM and staff to develop accurate and meaningful forecasts which can be measured and executed against.
- Coordinate and assist in analyses and explanations of significant monthly variances from BU/PY/RFC for internal reporting and analysis.
- Responsible for weekly dashboard report along with PM communicating weekly performance on cheese make, packaging, labor, yield and other KPIs etc.
- Assist in timely entry of annual budget and quarterly forecast.
- Facilitate, implement and monitor Cap Ex budgets, perform ad hoc capital project analyses, and appraise post expenditure achievement of expected return on investment.
- Ensure accurate and consistent valuation of inventories in compliance with USGAAP and UNICAP tax rules.
- Provide leadership in strengthening internal communication and understanding of staff at all levels and across multiple locations to create and promote a positive and supportive teamwork environment.
- Collaborate with PM and plant staff on ways that Accounting & Finance can better serve and support their operation.
- Support and prepare for timely and efficient completion of internal and external financial audits.
- Prepare and/or oversee preparation of various reports and surveys as required from time to time by governmental and regulatory agencies.
- Prepare internal management reports and analytics as may be defined by management from time to time.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time by the Director of Operations Finance or VP of Finance.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or Business Administration with Accounting major, is required.
- 5-10 years of operational accounting experience in a $20-50M+ manufacturing company with extensive knowledge of cost accounting is required.
- Active certification in accounting a plus, CMA is preferred.
- Working knowledge of USGAAP and SOX internal controls.
- Strong Microsoft Excel spreadsheet experience is required.
- Highly organized and collaborative team player with strong interpersonal and managerial skills.
- Ability to prioritize and plan work effectively in a lean accounting environment with strict deadlines.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and presentation abilities are preferred.
- Recent experience working within an ERP system environment, such as JD Edwards Enterprise One, Oracle or SAP, is preferred.
- Experience using various intranet and web-based technologies to effectively communicate and coordinate with remote staff is preferred (Microsoft Teams) is preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving skills for making timely fact-based decisions are preferred.
- Ability to anticipate and adapt to constant change in a dynamically growing business environment is preferred.
- Ability and willingness to travel in Wisconsin visiting plant locations approximately 20% of time is possible.
