Corrections Specialist 3 (CS3) – Reentry CBI Unit

Location: Monroe Correctional Complex (MCC) – Monroe, WA

Job Type: Permanent

Salary Range: $6,512 - $8,752

The Washington State Department of Corrections is hiring a Corrections Specialist 3 (CS3) in the Reentry Division – CBI Unit. This position (#L275) will work at Monroe Correctional Complex (MCC}; /nThe schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with possible adjustments based on participant availability. The role is permanent.

The Reentry Division implements evidence‑based practices and provides operational support to facilitate incarcerated individuals’ participation in evidence‑based interventions that reduce recidivism and increase safety of staff, participants, and the public Daarmee partnership with criminal justice partners, the Division conducts screenings, assessments, and evaluations to determine risks and needs and provides services in the least restrictive setting required.

The Corrections Specialist 3 contributes to the Department’s mission by providing supervision, expertise, and technical assistance to ensure the delivery of Cognitive Behavioral Interventions (CBI) in alignment with evidence‑based practices, addressing participants’ risks, needs, and behaviors, and supporting success in prison and community‑based programming and re‑entry.

Responsibilities
  • Leads the development, implementation, oversight, and fidelity of all CBI programs at the facility.
  • Promotes agency cultural change by educating, training, and coaching staff and analyzing performance for management.
  • Collaborates with DOC programs and contract providers to design appropriate program content, delivery, fidelity, and outcome measures.
  • Supports the CBI Fidelity Unit with insight into CBI implementation and delivery.
  • Develops and maintains the CBIShar program schedule and resolves resource conflicts.
  • Screens and assigns participants to CBI programs using approved criteria.
  • Coordinates and participates in multidisciplinary team meetings for participants requiring corrective interventions.
  • Notifies the CBI Fidelity Unit of required details for each CBI class before its start date.
  • Facilitates CBI programming as a single or co‑facilitator with other trained staff.
  • Enters program details and final participant lists into OMNI Programs and coordinates entry by the RPM Coordinator.
  • Administers the CBI as directed by the intervention handbook.
  • Documents participant attendance, absences, and make‑up sessions in OMNI Programs.
  • Observes and monitors participation, providing feedback and reinforcement as needed.
  • Collaborates with classification staff and stakeholders on program status, participation progress, safety issues, and behavioral concerns.
  • Works with the Classification Counselor to develop strategies that encourage participation.
  • Documents behavioral responses in OMNI according to the handbook.
  • Schedules and facilitates make‑up sessions per program requirements.
  • Acts as a backup facilitator for absences of other CBI facilitators.
  • Documents participant removal and program completion in OMNI.
  • Plans, assigns, and reviews the work of CBI staff.
  • Actively participates in the CBI Fidelity Unit’s assessment feedback for supervisors.
  • Establishes performance expectations, sets priorities, and conducts performance evaluations.
  • Completes all scheduled training and coaching, and demonstrates mastery of material within prescribed timelines, including initial facilitator training and any new program training.
  • Attends CBI Fidelity assessments, coaching, and booster sessions to improve delivery skills.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • AA or higher from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of professional experience in adult or juvenile corrections, social services, or a closely related field.
  • OR high school diploma, GED, or equivalency with five (5) years of professional experience in corrections or social services, with at least two years in direct delivery or quality assurance of evidence‑based programming such as CBI.
