Description:
The position involves working in an Intensive Care Unit setting.
This unit cares for adult patients with various medical issues.
Common patient diagnoses include sepsis, DKA, strokes, respiratory failure, kidney failure, liver failure, GI bleeds, surgical patients, heart failure, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Cardiothoracic and high-level neuro surgeries are not a part of the patient population.
Staffing ratios will be 1:2-3 depending on the staff availability.
Support within the department includes a Certified Nursing Assistant for night shifts, a charge nurse who may take patients when necessary, and a rapid response/code team.
Phlebotomy is available 24/7, and the intensive care unit draws its labs.
An anesthesia team is available at night for central line placements, along with respiratory therapy and hospitalist services 24/7.
The unit utilizes bedside monitors and central monitoring at the nurse's station.
Floating to other areas to care for ICU or Progressive Care Unit patients may be required, but floating to Med Surg is less typical.
Weekends require rotation, with six weekend shifts expected within a six-week schedule.
Holiday expectations include working 50% of designated holidays within the contract.

Scheduling requests can be submitted, but unit needs will take precedence.
The scrub color is navy blue.
