Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 12-hour night shift travel contract in Monroe, NC, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and Epic proficiency.

Responsibilities
  • 174-bed community hospital with a designated Stroke Center (no trauma designation, not a teaching hospital)
  • 14-bed Medical ICU unit with an average daily census of 14 patients
  • Adult patient population with common diagnoses including sepsis, DKA, stroke, CIWA, respiratory/kidney/liver failure, GI bleeds, surgical, CHF, and COPD — no cardiothoracic or high-level neuro surgeries
  • Patient ratio of 1:2–3 depending on staffing
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (1900–0700)
  • Weekend rotation of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling cycle; shifts may fall on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday
  • 50% of holidays during the contract period are required
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • May float to areas caring for ICU or PCU patients;
    Med Surg float is possible but uncommon; floats are in rotation with staff
  • Scheduling follows a 6-week cycle with schedule requests accepted, though the supervisor balances assignments to unit needs
  • EMR:
    Epic (experience required)
  • IV pumps:
    Alaris; medication dispensing:
    Omnicell; bedside and central station monitors:
    Philips
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Orientation includes a general new employee orientation (NEO) followed by 2 unit-orientation shifts
  • Night shift support includes 1 CNA (who also covers HUC duties), a charge RN who participates in Rapid Response/Code Team, in-room cameras linked to a remote triage RN and virtual critical care physician, anesthesia available for central line placements, RT 24/7, hospitalist 24/7, and an intensivist available virtually overnight
  • Phlebotomy services are available 24/7, though ICU nurses draw their own labs; PICC team is available during daytime hours
  • RTO of up to 7 days may be approved during the contract
  • Candidates who have previously held a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
  • Required scrub color:

Requirements
  • Active NC RN license or a Compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Proficiency with Epic EMR required
  • Clinical skills required include ventilator management, tracheostomy care, chest tubes, critical drip maintenance, central line maintenance, arterial lines, wound care, wound vacs, drains, cardiac rhythm interpretation, PIV starts, and NG tube insertion/maintenance
  • One professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN, required for consideration
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility (locals not accepted)
