Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU position in Monroe, NC, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and Epic proficiency for 12-hour night shifts.
Responsibilities- 14-bed ICU within a 174-bed community hospital designated as a Stroke Center (no trauma designation, non-teaching)
- Adult medical ICU patient population including sepsis, DKA, stroke, CIWA, respiratory/kidney/liver failure, GI bleeds, surgical, CHF, and COPD cases — no cardiothoracic or high-level neuro surgeries
- Patient ratio of 1:2–3 depending on staffing
- Skilled procedures include ventilator management, tracheostomy care, chest tubes, critical drip and central line maintenance, arterial lines, wound care/wound vacs, drains, cardiac rhythm interpretation, PIV starts, and NG tube insertion/maintenance
- EMR:

Philips bedside and central station monitors - 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (1900–0700)
- 6-week scheduling cycle with the ability to submit schedule requests
- Weekend rotation: 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule, which may fall on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday
- No on-call or callback requirements
- Floating possible to other areas for ICU or PCU patients;
Med Surg float is within the realm of possibility but not typical; float rotation shared with staff - Support staff includes a CNA (who also covers HUC duties on nights), a charge RN who can take patients and participates in Rapid Response/Code Team, 24/7 Respiratory Therapy, Hospitalist, and Intensivist coverage (virtual intensivist coverage at night)
- Remote triage RN monitors via in-room cameras on nights, with the ability to transfer to a virtual critical care physician
- Phlebotomy available 24/7, though the ICU draws its own labs; PICC team available during day shift; anesthesia available at night for central line placements
- Orientation includes a facility new employee orientation (NEO) and 2 unit orientation shifts
- Holiday coverage required for 50% of holidays during the contract
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved
- Scrub color: navy blue

- Candidates must have a permanent address at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted
- Former employees of any AHSE facility in a permanent position must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Epic EMR experience required
- Proficiency with ventilated patients, trachs, chest tubes, critical drips, central lines, arterial lines, wound vacs, cardiac rhythm interpretation, and related ICU skills
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
