Position: 4-H Summer Intern

Union County 4-H Youth Development’s Summer Fun Program is an informative, practical, learn-by-doing educational program open to all youth in Union County. Summer Fun consists of a series of educational activities designed to make the most of summer vacation by encouraging youth to learn through productive activities that are fun. 4-H Youth Development is the nation’s largest and oldest youth program.

Its mission is “to make the best better.” Each summer, Union County 4-H runs numerous weeks of summer camps, providing engaging and hands‑on education for youth. As the 4-H Summer Program Intern, you will work with the 4-H Agent(s) to facilitate youth programs, ensuring a positive and engaging experience for participants. The intern will be responsible for helping present and maintain a positive image of 4-H and its programs to the community, parents, and youth.

Responsibilities
  • Planning, implementing, and coordinating educational day camps conducted at the Union County Agricultural Center. This role may include checking the arrangements for room‑set up, audio‑visual planning and preparing activities and curriculum for camps, organizing recreation, and utilizing specific curriculum for ongoing programs.
  • Assisting in the daily operations of the summer fun day camp program.
  • Keeping accurate records for camps, including attendance, pre/post surveys, and other reports related to the position.
  • Promptly reporting any problems, accidents, or behavioral concerns to 4‑H staff.
  • Assisting in taking photos and documenting activities for reporting and promotional purposes.
  • Supervising youth participants and ensuring a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Assisting with and helping manage the Counselor‑in‑Training (CIT) program, including mentoring teen leaders, modeling professionalism, supporting leadership development activities, and helping coordinate CIT responsibilities within daily camp operations.
  • Comfortably leading and assisting in pre‑planned lessons.
  • Assist in any duties that may be assigned by 4‑H Agent(s).
Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) or two (2) years of college coursework in Education, Early Childhood Education, Human Services, Recreation/Business Management, Leadership Students, or Event Management; and experience working with the general public primarily children and public speaking.

Licenses or Certifications

Must have a valid Driver’s License and be able to maintain a safe driving history as defined by the Union County Vehicle Use Policy. First Aid & CPR preferred.

Work Conditions & General Requirements
  • Work will take place in various environments, including indoor classrooms, outdoor spaces, and active camp settings.
  • Must successfully pass a background check before hiring.
  • Must follow the 4‑H dress code:
    Work casual attire is acceptable, including jeans and t‑shirts. Closed‑toed shoes are required at all times.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel) and standard office equipment is preferred.

Must enjoy working with children, must possess good communication skills, have an outgoing personality and be responsible. Some knowledge in Microsoft computer programs including Word, Excel, and standard office equipment systems.
