Job Overview
The Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) is committed to protecting the public by providing safe and effective individualized services to youth. We are seeking a dedicated professional to serve as Juvenile Justice Specialist 4, responsible for supervising staff and supporting the daily operations of secure care facilities for youth. This role plays a key part in maintaining safety, promoting rehabilitation, and ensuring that staff deliver consistent, trauma‑informed care aligned with agency standards.
Required
Education and Experience:
- A high school diploma or GED or one year of experience in any field plus two years of experience in a residential, correctional, behavioral health, or group home setting with responsibility for rehabilitation of delinquent youth, clinical care, custody, or security.
- OR two years of experience in Probation and Parole.
Special Requirements:
- Applicant must be at least 18 years of age.
- Conviction of a felony or indictment on a felony charge will be a disqualifying factor until relief is granted.
- Disqualification for any form of sexual abuse or sexual activity involving force, threats, or non‑consensual conduct.
- Operational Supervision (20%)
- Issuing and collecting shift packets (search sheets, coverage, overtime, violations, UORs).
- Conducting fence line checks each shift and reporting findings.
- Responding to alerts for fights, crises, and staff assistance.
- Overseeing searches of youth after visitation per policy.
- Facility Rounds & Youth Supervision (30%)
- Making rounds in dorms during night shifts and ensuring facility cleanliness.
- Supervising youth transitions, recreation, and dining hall movements.
- Monitoring school areas, assisting teachers, and ensuring youth remain supervised.
- Coordinating laundry services and enforcing recreation policies.
- Policy Compliance & Treatment Standards (10%)
- Adhering to OJJ/facility policies and maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment.
- Demonstrating knowledge of agency mission and goals.
- Safety & Professional Conduct (10%)
- Following driver safety guidelines and applying emergency interventions when necessary.
- Maintaining professionalism, teamwork, and communication with staff, youth, families, and the public.
- Documentation & Reporting (10%)
- Escorting youth on/off campus and ensuring supervision at all times.
- Documenting dorm activities in daily logs and completing required reports accurately and on time.
- Security & Housekeeping (10%)
- Conducting safety rounds, pat‑downs, and dorm searches.
- Ensuring daily housekeeping and sanitation standards are met.
- Performing facility counts per policy.
- Behavior Intervention Unit (BIU) Oversight (10%)
- Ensuring BIU policies are followed, including medical checks and documentation.
- Supervising youth during meals and medication distribution.
- Overseeing dining hall cleanup and orderliness. /ul>
- Work Location: Swanson Center for Youth, Monroe, Louisiana.
- Appointment Type: Full‑time, probationary.
- Compensation: Special Entrance Rate of $1,842.40 biweekly.
