The Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) is committed to protecting the public by providing safe and effective individualized services to youth, who will become productive, law‑abiding citizens. We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Instructor to provide academic instruction to youth in secure care facilities. This role is vital to supporting the educational development and rehabilitation of justice‑involved youth. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering a positive learning environment, promoting academic achievement, and helping students build the skills they need for successful reintegration into their communities.

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
• Louisiana teaching certification or eligibility for certification
• Strong classroom management and instructional skills
• Ability to work effectively with at‑risk youth in a secure care setting
• Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills

• Deliver instruction in core academic subjects (e.g., English, Math, Science, Social Studies) aligned with Louisiana Department of Education standards
• Develop and implement individualized lesson plans based on student needs and learning levels
• Maintain classroom discipline and promote a safe, respectful learning environment
• Assess student progress and maintain accurate academic records
• Collaborate with facility staff, counselors, and education coordinators to support student success
• Integrate life skills, career readiness, and character education into daily instruction
• Participate in professional development and training sessions

Work Location: This vacancy is located at Swanson Center for Youth in Monroe, Louisiana.

Appointment Type: WAE/Part Time

Criminal Conviction Requirement: The incumbent of this position must not have been convicted or pled nolo contendere to a crime listed in R.S. 15:587.1 (c). No civil service test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy.
