Overview
The Youth Program Facilitator helps plan, coordinate, and lead indoor and outdoor activities for K-5th grade students, with and without disabilities, in the City’s after school and recreational programs. The Youth Program Facilitator is responsible for the supervision, safety, and well-being of students in the programs and also provides support and accommodations to those children with disabilities.
Responsibilities- Effectively manage assigned group of children to facilitate socialization, participation and interaction of children with the goal of fostering the positive development of each child and the group.
- Build a positive relationship with each participant in your care, and foster positive connections between participants.
- Provide accommodations, and collaborate with other program staff to ensure active participation of all participants, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Emotional and Behavioral Disorders, Cognitive disabilities, etc.
- Provide adaptations based on individual needs and utilize positive behavior guidance techniques.
- Plan, implement and document successful educational, recreation, youth leadership, and community service and arts activities with school-aged children.
- Record and submit daily attendance records, and any other required documents to After school Program/Recreation Coordinator.
- Communicate with program families daily with important information regarding program participants.
- Inspect on a daily basis all facilities, equipment, and supplies and be sure all are accounted for and put away and cleaned at the end of each day.
- Adhere to policies and procedures in a proactive manner, making the safety and care of children your primary focus.
- Manage emergencies, unusual circumstances and behavior.
- Embody the core development goals:
Physical Literacy, Environmental Literacy, and Social Literacy. - Conduct yourself as a professional and representative of the City of Monona with school staff, parents, children and anyone else with whom you come into contact in your role.
- Actively participate in all aspects of staff development, including weekly supervision, weekly team meetings, pre-service training, and an additional training during the school year.
- Other duties as assigned.
