The Aldo Leopold Nature Center (ALNC) is seeking adaptable, creative, and engaging educators to teach our summer camp programs from June through August! ALNC is a non‑profit educational organization guided by Aldo Leopold’s land ethic, with a mission to nurture children, their well‑being, and environmental sustainability through connecting and learning in nature. ALNC serves children, teachers, and families through year‑round programming that includes field trips, camps, a nature preschool, and public and private events.

ALNC is an equal opportunity employer committed to building and serving a culturally rich, inclusive staff that is well‑equipped to serve our diverse community. We strongly encourage applicants from all backgrounds and identities to apply.

Time commitment:
June 8–August 21, 2026

This full‑time seasonal position includes one week of staff training (June 8-12) and ten weeks of summer camp (June 15-August 21).

Camps run from 8:30am-3:30pm on weekdays followed by after care until 5:30pm. Educators typically work 8:00am-4:00pm but may be scheduled from 9:45am-5:45pm on select weeks throughout the summer with advanced notice. Opportunities for planning and prep will be built into the weekly schedule.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of this position is the planning and delivery of experiential nature programs for 4-13 year old campers. Environmental educators are responsible for the physical and emotional well‑being of the children in their care and are expected to facilitate a welcoming environment that is safe, inclusive, and fun for all participants. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Independently supervise a small group of children during their camp session.
  • Design and lead hands‑on activities that take into account camper ages, interests, and abilities.
  • Assess group dynamics and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
  • Collaborate with other staff to create a cohesive camp community.
  • Maintain a reliable attendance record throughout the summer.

Ideal candidates will be able to manage a full‑time weekly schedule, work well in a team environment, communicate effectively with others, and represent ALNC in a professional manner. Flexibility, initiative, the ability to problem solve, and a sense of humor are a must.

Qualifications
  • At least 18 years of age and have completed high school or its equivalent.
  • Certified in First Aid/CPR (training will be provided for those who need it).
  • Must pass a child care background check and fingerprint screen.
  • Experience working with and supporting youth socially, emotionally, and behaviorally, preferably in small group settings.
  • Interest in developing and leading a variety of enriching camp activities.
  • Ability to develop rapport with campers of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Comfortable making quick decisions in response to changing circumstances.
  • Ability to maintain sight and sound supervision of campers at all times.
  • Willingness to work outside in all summer weather conditions.
  • Preferred: clean driving record and willingness to drive a 15 passenger van.
Compensation

The pay range for this position is $20.00-$21.50 per hour depending on prior experience and Spanish language skills. Employees receive one paid holiday (July
3) and the ability to request up to five days of unpaid time off during the summer.
