⭐ Unqualified Teaching Assistant to support one of our welcoming Secondary Schools! ⭐

Teaching Personnel is delighted to be recruiting an Unqualified Teaching Assistant for a warm, inclusive, and well‑respected secondary school in the Newport area, supporting pupils aged 11–16. This is a fantastic chance to step into a rewarding, hands‑on role where every day is different and where you’ll genuinely help young people who need extra support to thrive.

In this role, you’ll work closely with the school’s ALN (Additional Learning Needs) team, supporting pupils with a range of needs—such as learning difficulties, social/emotional challenges, and behavioural needs. Your day‑to‑day work will include one‑to‑one and small‑group support, helping pupils access learning, reinforcing lessons, and encouraging positive behaviour and engagement. You’ll collaborate with teachers, ALN staff, and pastoral teams to help create a calm, structured, and nurturing environment.

You don’t need formal teaching qualifications to apply — although having them is a bonus! We’re looking for someone with relevant experience or strong transferrable skills, along with a genuine passion for supporting young people. (Full vetting checks will be completed)

If you’re enthusiastic, people‑focused, and ready to make a meaningful difference every day, we’d love to hear from you!

What We’re Looking For

We welcome applicants who bring a mix of experience, transferable skills, and a genuine passion for supporting young people, including:

Relevant experience in childcare, youth work, support work, behaviour support, mentoring, sports coaching, classroom support, care, or other transferable roles is a strong advantage.

Relevant or studying‑towards qualifications in childcare, education, teaching, or a related field (a bonus, not essential)
Confidence supporting pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN/SEN) or behavioural needs
The ability to stay calm, kind, patient, and approachable in challenging situations
An understanding of the social, emotional, and learning needs of young people

✅Requirements (or willingness to obtain independently)

If successful and to demonstrate commitment to working in education, applicants must hold or be willing to apply for:

Education Workforce Council (EWC) registration
Be aged 18 or over
An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service
Level 2 Safeguarding training
A minimum of two professional references covering 24 months of employment
