Lead Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist performs tests on blood and body fluids to determine the presence or absence of disease, monitor response to treatment and aid in health maintenance. Lead is responsible for ensuring compliance with policies and procedures and review of quality control and proficiency testing as directed from technical supervisors. Lead is responsible for daily workflow management and works with supervisor to ensure policies, procedures and personnel are appropriate.
Responsible to use critical thinking and clinical knowledge to assess questionable results and correlate with clinical information to determine accuracy.
- Perform laboratory testing in accordance with standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure adherence to policies and procedures; review quality control and proficiency testing as directed by technical supervisors.
- Manage daily workflow and coordinate with supervisor to ensure appropriate staffing and processes.
- Apply critical thinking and clinical knowledge to assess questionable results and correlate with clinical information.
- Education:
Required:
Bachelor’s Degree must be obtained within 90 days OR High School Diploma or equivalent AND Grandfathered status under CLIA Regulations. - Experience:
Preferred:
At least 1 year related experience.
- Strong analytical/problem solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with different levels of management; clear verbal and written communication.
- Excellent time management, interpersonal, presentation, organization, prioritizing, decision-making, and planning skills.
- Knowledge of current information technology and ability to lead project teams for automation projects of large size and complexity.
- Proficiency in Microsoft programs; high level proficiency in Excel.
- Required:
Certified as a Medical Technologist (ASCP)/Clinical Laboratory Scientist from a nationally recognized laboratory certifying agency or eligible to sit for exam at time of hire; must obtain ASCP within 90 days of hire.
