Custodian Public Service Department

The Custodian performs various duties to maintain the appearance and cleanliness of the Town facilities.

• Cleans, dusts, and sanitizes furniture and other surfaces inside Town facilities.
• Sweeps, mops, and vacuums floors. Moves and organizes furniture as needed.
• Stocks toilet paper, soap, and other sanitary supplies. Keeps all toiletries in stock and available for staff and events.
• Washes windows and walls.
• Performs routine maintenance to custodial equipment and supplies.
• Empties and cleans wastebaskets, bags trash for proper disposal and disposes of trash into compactors and/or dumpsters.
• Performs sidewalk and exterior entryway cleanup.
• Works during events and other special assignments as required.
• Ensures routine maintenance is conducted on the assigned company vehicle.
• Assists with seasonal/holiday decorating.
• Performs minor maintenance tasks including changing light bulbs, touch up painting, and changing out damaged dispensers; reports more significant issues to the Maintenance and Facilities Supervisor.
• Ensures upkeep of interior/decorative plants.
• Must have the ability to use equipment and chemicals in prescribed manner, including ability to read labels, SDS information sheets, and instructions. Refers to policy and procedure manuals, codes/laws/regulations, publications and reference texts, etc. as needed.
• Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the Supervisor, Department Head, Mayor and Council and the general public.
• Addresses periodic special requests for particular cleaning; and
• Performs other duties, as assigned.

• Requires a high school diploma or equivalent with one (1) year of general grounds and facility cleaning experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• A valid S.C. driver’s license is required.

Job Grade N-105, Minimum Salary: $36,116.15 per year. Starting pay based on experience.
