Position: Police Lieutenant – Investigations Moncks Corner Police Department

The Police Lieutenant – Investigations performs law enforcement and supervisory work in assisting in planning and supervising the operations of assigned Investigative Division involving supervising the investigation unit, overseeing Investigations, reviewing reports, overseeing and investigating major cases and specialized tasks and requesting, overseeing and supervising meetings, briefings, trainings, and roll calls with regards to Officer activities.

Essential Job Functions
  • Supervises department employees which involves such duties as instructing, assigning and reviewing work, maintaining standards, acting on employee problems, selecting new employees, appraising employee performance, recommending promotions, discipline, termination and salary increases.
  • Handles responsibility for specialized functions such as traffic safety checkpoints, parades, community meetings, activities specializing in children, church functions and public gatherings and supplies manpower for patrol functions when necessary.
  • Performs specialized surveillance activities, narcotic activities, vice, and alcohol violations and conducts, supervises, and plans sweeps, raids, search warrants, warrant services and stake outs.
  • Handles the responsibility for crime scene processing such as securing, maintaining, establishing, preserving and releasing and performs evidence gathering, coding, logging, testing, securing, storing and destroying.
  • Correlates statistical data, submits data for monthly review by supervisors and Council and submits data to SLED and FBI as required.
  • Handles the responsibility for weapons armory by maintaining, cleaning, logging, cataloging, testing, issuing and storing weapons used by the Police Department, trains and implements policy with regards to firearms, evaluates, bids and purchases new firearms, ammunition and leather gear, advises staff of inventory, needs and malfunctions and rebuilds, replaces, upgrades and inspects all weapons.
  • Coordinates General Session cases which involves ensuring that cases are ready for Grand Jury, that juvenile cases are ready for Family Court and that detectives follow-up cases and keeps the Chief of Police informed on activities, etc.
  • Prepares court packets.
  • Performs scheduling for preliminary hearings, administrative traffic hearings and jury trials and works closely with Solicitors from both courts Juvenile and General Sessions maintaining dialogue with regards to upcoming cases and ongoing cases.
  • Answers mail, requests, Rule 5’s, information requests, submits news releases, Chief’s correspondence, etc., and conducts interviews with media, community leaders and legislators.
  • Meets and greets salesman, contractors, suppliers and distributors and schedules demonstrations, shows and trials for new law enforcement items.
  • Inventories, maintains, secures, records and catalogs seized items such as vehicles, personal property, records, vehicle accessories, etc.
  • Establishes a summer camp for youths, plans and prepares for camp, supports a youth DUI awareness program, uses two golf carts, three hundred cones and distorted goggles, provides an idea of what the effects are from Driving Under the Influence and maintains the golf carts and the twenty foot enclosed trailer.
  • Receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as South Carolina Code of Laws, Federal laws, policy and procedures, employee handbook and higher court ruling.
  • Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as monthly correlation, job performance evaluation, incident report, training/safety guidelines and purchase requests.
  • Refers to Code of Law Handbook, policy and procedure manual, employee handbook, Internet, dedicated software, codes/laws/regulations, publications and reference texts, etc.
  • Operates a vehicle and a variety of equipment such as firearms, audiovisual equipment, two-way radio, cell phones, copy/fax machine, desktop computer, etc.
  • Uses a variety of tools such as reference/guide books, fingerprint kit, general tools, safety equipment/vest/cone/signs, first aid kit, etc., a variety of supplies such as personal computer data storage, fuel, office supplies, clothing, audiovisual aids, etc.…
