Position Description
Serve as the Park’s consultant regarding environmental and historical education and science curriculum. Coordinate the improvement and the maintenance of the park’s nature trails and all natural exhibits and maintain the interpretive Center’s exhibits and models. Develop and implement expanded programs for the local schools and the community. Provide summer educational camps that focus on our ecosystem.
Essential Job Tasks- Leads the development and implementation of Environmental and Historical Education curriculum that follows the State and National Standards to ensure quality programs.
- Coordinates non-classroom supplementary learning experiences for student groups, including field, in support of environmental and historical education.
- Plans and operates the Park's Summer Camp.
- Creates, organizes and safely implements nature and history-themed camps, while providing guidance to summer camp counselors.
- Plans and operates weekend public programs covering a wide array of relevant history and nature-based programs, including one major nature or history-based community event/festival.
- Provides audiovisual and other media collection for learning materials that focuses on environmental and historical education and coordinates maintenance of Outdoor Education Kiosk and the Nature trail.
- Acts as liaison between Old Santee Canal Park and resource professionals responsible for locally significant nature, history and cultural-based sites.
- Works with teachers to infuse Environmental and Historical Education into all aspects of the environment with the greatest emphasis in science.
- Conducts in-service workshops for teachers and volunteers to enlarge and reinforce understanding and appreciation of environmental and historical issues.
- Updates permits and maintains scientific animal collection used in environmental and historical education programs.
- Provides staff with information regarding professional development workshops, seminars and conferences pertaining to environmental and historical education.
- Stays abreast of current environmental and historical problems, issues, programs, and state and local citizen involvement activities.
- Performs all such other duties assigned.
- Bachelor's Degree with emphasis in Environmental Education + 5 years experience in the field of environmental education in a park setting or applied teaching experience in public or private school.
- Must have strong communication skills.
$54,470 - $68,070 (min.
- mid.)
