Job SummaryUnder the supervision and direction of a licensed practitioner, the Certified Medical Assistant will assist in the delivery of pediatric primary health care and patient care management. This individual will provide clinical assistance to physicians working in the practice following established standards, practices, and protocols.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Performs general nursing care to patients including obtaining history, vital signs, and administering prescribed vaccines in accordance with accepted nursing standards.
- Assists with the preparation of equipment including re-stocking of supplies and gathering necessary equipment for procedures.
- Uses standard precautions as needed in the clinical setting. Disposes of biohazardous waste as appropriate.
- Aids physicians and nurses during the treatment, examination, and testing of patients.
- Screen telephone calls for referral to a nurse or physician.
- Greets patients and prepares them for physician examination. Accurately gather and record patient history. Instructs patients in the collection of samples and tests. Maintains a timely flow of patients.
- Accurately records physician orders in the patient chart as needed. Accurately enters patient vitals, tests, vaccines, and examination results.
- Orders, prepares, and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization.
- Assists with scheduling of tests and treatment under the guidance of a Licensed Practical Nurse, Registered Nurse, or physician.
- Maintains patient files, records, and other health and office information.
- Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested. Provides training to other clinical Medical Assistants as requested.
- Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
- Maintains patient confidentiality per HIPAA regulations.
- Cross-train as Patient Representative.
- Performs related work as required.
- Performs lab quality controls within COLA Standards.
- Performs laboratory testing, enters lab results accurately, and understands troubleshooting for laboratory procedures.
- Must possess knowledge of the principles and skills needed to provide patient care and treatment.
- Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.
- Knowledge of pediatric immunization schedules.
- Understanding of common safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe work environment.
- Skill in administering a variety of treatments as directed.
- Skill in using various types of equipment for examination, diagnostic, and treatment procedures.
- Skill in maintaining electronic medical records
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, families, co-workers, and the public. Ability to communicate clearly.
- Ability to maintain quality control standards and to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to interpret and adapt to patient care guidelines and procedures.
- Knowledge of medical practice and care to assist in giving pediatric patient care.
- Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures including administering vaccines.
- Understanding of common safety hazards and precautions to create a safe work environment.
- Skills in using various types of medical equipment for examination, diagnostic, and treatment procedures.
- Skills in maintaining records and recording test results in an electronic medical record.

Education and Experience- Graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants or equivalent work experience
- One year of experience working as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting preferred
- Pediatric examination, diagnostic and treatment equipment, office equipment such as a printer, copier, fax, etc.
