The ESL Program Transition Specialist provides and coordinates the tasks necessary for the recruitment, enrollment, retention, and transition of ESL students from outreach centers and the community to Academic ESL, transfer, and vocational programs.
Job LocationQC Campus and East Campus
Description of Essential Duties- Visits each outreach ESL Program with the Academic ESL Program coordinator at least twice each semester.
- Conducts intake interviews with incoming ESL students.
- Assists in the registration of eligible students by completing admissions applications and financial aid assistance.
- Refers students for ESL placement tests and ability‑to‑benefit tests.
- Attends community events and activities to disseminate information about the College’s ESL program.
- Assists the ESL coordinator in conducting orientation meetings for transitioning ESL students.
- Assists the ESL coordinator in organizing and conducting the ESL Orientation Week.
- Assists the Academic ESL Program coordinator in hosting visits of high school ELL students.
- Assists ESL students in completing scholarship applications.
- Coordinates the Conversation Partners Program.
- Maintains a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
- Demonstrate the College’s core values.
- Ensure accuracy of work.
- Work cooperatively with co‑workers.
- Communicate pleasantly with employees, students, and the general public.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and information.
- Works directly with ESL Program Coordinator/ESL instructors.
- Works cooperatively with faculty and other college personnel, particularly those in student services and outreach.
- Works closely with students from a variety of social, economic and ethnic backgrounds.
- Bachelor’s degree required; emphasis in ESL, counseling, or international studies preferred.
- Familiarity with and ability to use Microsoft Office programs required.
- Ability to travel and work from all Black Hawk College satellite centers required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to exercise independent judgment required.
- Strong oral and written communication skills required.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information required.
- Interest and ability to work with participants from varied social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds required.
