Job DescriptionPatient Services Representative reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and regulatory and accreditation standards.
Responsibilities- Greets patients as they enter the office and obtains required patient information.
- Performs patient registration, including verifying insurance information and collecting co‑pays and outstanding balances.
- Obtains and updates patient demographic information.
- Answers phone calls and schedules appointments.
- Directs and documents patient calls as appropriate.
- Coordinates scheduling of outside testing for patients.
- Serves as a liaison between patients and the practice.
- Provides backup for scheduling appointments.
- Ensures patient safety and confidentiality in all work activities.
- Completes the daily reconciliation report to assure charges have been entered correctly.
- Pulls charts and readies them for the next day’s appointments; files completed charts daily.
- Files test/procedure results in the inpatient medical record after the physician has signed off on the results.
- Liaises with company representatives or potential employees to assure correct services are provided.
- Reviews Epic chart prior to patient appointments to ensure consents are current and the insurance card is up to date.
- Responds to all medical record requests from patients, insurance companies, physician offices, subpoenas, and legal requests per protocol.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Zero to two years’ experience in a customer service position.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- One to three years of prior physician office experience.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology.
Northwestern Medicine conducts a background check that includes criminal history on newly hired team members and, at times, internal transfers.
