Job Description

We are seeking an Assistant Construction Manager to perform onsite management of small retail and commercial remodels. This role involves ensuring safety compliance, creating project schedules, coordinating with subcontractors, and managing project documentation.

Responsibilities

* Perform onsite management of small retail and commercial remodels.

* Enforce safety protocols and conduct safety audits.

* Create project schedules and coordinate with subcontractors daily.

* Document activities and report updates using project management software.

* Handle submittals, change orders, RFIs, and related documents.

* Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and site layouts according to specifications.

* Propose bids and determine labor and material costs for projects.

* Attend client meetings and coordinate onsite with clients.

* Ensure daily job-site clean-up and site readiness for the next day.

* Secure and lock up the site before ending the shift.

* Use basic hand and power tools occasionally.

Essential Skills

* Construction management experience, at least through internship.

* Site construction and subcontractor management.

* Carpentry, interiors, and hands-on labor work experience.

* Daily reporting and documentation using software.

* Knowledge of job site safety, construction engineering, codes, and drawings.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

* Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred (Associate's minimum requirement).

* 1 to 3 years of experience working for a general contractor or in related construction roles.

* Hands-on attitude and ability to work manually.

* Willingness to work night shifts and weekends depending on project needs.

* Ability to travel around the Chicagoland area for project locations.

Work Environment

The Assistant Construction Manager will support projects ranging from $10,000 to $1,000,000 for clients within a 90-mile radius of the Mokena, IL office. This role primarily involves fieldwork, often requiring night and weekend shifts. After approximately one to one and a half years, contingent on performance, the opportunity to work on larger day-time projects may arise. The office fosters a family atmosphere with a secure area for trucks and equipment.

The position involves working 40-55 hours per week, including occasional Saturdays.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mokena, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $28.85/hr.
