This is a seasonal, full‑time, on‑site position reporting to both our Modesto Field Department office and Stockton facility, with daily off‑site fieldwork and travel throughout the Central Valley.
In this role, you will support field operations for both tomato and olive products. Responsibilities include inspecting upcoming tomato fields for fruit maturity and quality, as well as collecting and organizing samples and data from olive fields. You will deliver samples to the appropriate laboratories, perform accurate data entry, and maintain regular communication with your supervisor and team members. This position typically works five days per week from mid/late June to mid/late November.
TomatoOperations
- Inspecting and sampling various tomato fields when they are at the peak of their maturity.
- Inspecting maturity counts on different tomato varieties within the field to determine the proper date to harvest.
- Inspecting peel samples of red tomatoes to determine quality of the upcoming harvest.
- Documenting sampled product for verification of maturity.
- Submitting samples to the QC lab for analysis and performing various data analysis on the results of the scouting trip.
- Driving a company‑issued car daily to assigned work areas.
- Overnight, off‑site travel may be required.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Support daily operations and data collection for the Field Department.
- Join orchard visits and inspect crops and conditions.
- Enter and organize data from fields and labs.
- Maintain and prepare departmental documentation and reports.
- Work closely with field staff and managers on projects.
- Collect fruit samples following standard procedures.
- Coordinate sample submissions and retrieve analysis results from external labs.
- Evaluate orchards for conditions, canopy, fruit set, irrigation, pests, and diseases.
- Document findings with structured notes and reports.
- Assist with field mapping and orchard boundary updates.
- Input scouting, sampling, inventory, and trial data into relevant systems.
- Help establish and monitor field trials across orchards.
- Record trial data like yield, canopy metrics, and imagery per standardized methods.
- Contribute to piloting and updating SOPs and internal processes.
- Driving a company‑issued car daily to assigned work areas.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must be able to work independently and follow through with deadlines.
- Able to work Monday – Friday, with weekends and holidays as needed.
- Availability to work from July through mid‑November. Times may be adjusted within a week or two of the mentioned time frames.
- Valid CA Driver’s License.
- Currently enrolled in a four‑year college or university.
- In this internship, you will learn about our Field Operations and be exposed to our full operation by meeting with different leaders across the organization each week to better understand the business.
Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and frequent fine finger dexterity.
