Distinguishing Characteristics

This is the full working level class of the Grounds Maintenance Series within the Yosemite Community College District (YCCD). Grounds keeping duties emphasize mowing and edging large lawn areas, maintaining athletic fields, weeding planted areas, pruning trees and shrubs, maintaining sprinkler systems, spraying herbicides and pesticides, and supporting athletic events.

This class can be distinguished from the higher-level class of Grounds Maintenance Specialist because incumbents in that class may be assigned to perform the most complex grounds maintenance duties such as maintaining undeveloped and rugged terrain, planning and preparing fire breaks, and removing snow, and/or may serve as lead workers for an assigned shift and/or area.

Supervision Received and Exercised

Incumbents in this class work under the general supervision of a manager, working alone on routine or regular work assignments and checking with the supervisor on non-routine assignments or when in doubt as to the correct procedures to follow.
