Position SummaryReporting to the Emergency Director of Patient Care Services/Shift Manager, the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and providing high‑quality, individualized patient care using the components of the nursing process.
Responsibilities- Initiate a multidisciplinary, goal‑oriented care plan for each patient in collaboration with the health‑care team and provide care based on that plan.
- Ensure patient safety by assessing and proactively implementing safety measures with specific consideration of patient’s functional and developmental age.
- Provide appropriate nursing interventions; competent in all routine nursing skills, including medication administration, intravenous therapy, management of indwelling catheters and drains, and safe use of any medical equipment.
- Serve as Charge Nurse per unit guidelines when assigned; ensure operations and nursing care follow Medical Center and department policies and standards; inform Manager/Director of difficulties or unusual situations; provide staff with allotted meal and break periods.
- Demonstrate the ability to provide care in emergency situations and follow established emergency procedures.
- Delegate patient‑care tasks to ancillary personnel based on competency and scope of practice; evaluate effectiveness of care performed.
- Participate in activities that support performance improvement.
- Organize workload, set priorities, and use time efficiently to complete work on time.
- Perform physical and psychosocial assessment of all age groups, modify care to meet age‑specific and cultural differences, and document assessment and treatment appropriately for newborns, infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Adhere strictly to COBRA/EMTALA requirements and ensure verbal orders are documented in the medical record.
- Orient and precept new staff, students, and other personnel as requested.
- Assist with departmental process‑improvement initiatives and noise‑reduction efforts.
- Applicable to ED Admit Nurse only: locate all admit holds in the ED, document home medications, initiate Power Plans, complete admission history and assessment, administer medications on holds past 4 hours, discharge admitted patient if indicated, and maintain medication reconciliation and current clinical ladder requirements.
Minimum Education
:
Graduation from an accredited nursing school.
Minimum Experience/Skills
: 1 year ED experience or 2 years telemetry (preferred).
License & Certifications
:
• California RN license (must remain current at all times)
• ACLS, PALS (new graduate: within 3 months of hire/transfer)
• TNCC (new graduate: within 12 months of hire/transfer)
• NIHSS education module (complete within 6 months of hire/transfer and maintain thereafter)
• ENPC and MICN as per clinical ladder requirements
• CEN preferred.
Required Certifications (within 12 months of hire to ED): ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, TNCC.
