Reporting to the Director of Patient Care Services/Shift Manager, the Registered Nurse is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and providing high quality, individualized patient care using the components of the nursing process.
1. Initiates a multidisciplinary, goal oriented care plan for each patient in collaboration with members of the health care team and provides care based on that plan.
2. Ensures patient safety by assessing and proactively implementing safety measures with specific consideration of patient’s functional and developmental age.
3. Provides appropriate nursing interventions. Competent in all routine nursing skills, including, but not limited to, (1) medication administration, (2) intravenous therapy, (3) management of indwelling catheters and drains, and (4) safe use of any medical equipment, such as glucose meters, IV pumps.
4. Keeps Manager/Director informed when difficulties and/or unusual situations occur. Provides for allotted meal and break periods for staff.
5. Demonstrates the ability to provide care in emergency situations and follows established emergency procedures
6. Delegates patient care tasks to ancillary personnel based on individual competency and scope of practice. Evaluates effectiveness of care performed.
7. Participates in activities within the organization that support performance improvement.
8. Demonstrates the ability to organize workload, set priorities, and use time efficiently to complete work on time and in an organized manner.
9. Performs physical and psychosocial assessment of all age groups of patients that demonstrate knowledge and consideration of age specific and cultural differences. Modifies nursing care to meet the age specific requirements of the adult (18 to 70 years) and geriatric (71+ years) patients.
10. Additional responsibilities are outlined on the Clinical Ladder and are to be documented on the Annual Evaluation Checklist.
11. Observes patients’ receiving complex chemo therapeutics and radiation therapy, and reports abnormal findings to the physician.
